Earlier, in customary snarl mode, I reckoned on getting very few reviews for the book, but I hadn't reckoned with the fantastically brilliant James Delingpole doing a wickedly insightful piece in The Spectator.

That was a cracking good review. Please let me know if you are interested in doing an author event in the Southwest.

I was reading my Speccie this morning over coffee and thought that was a pretty good write up by Dellers.. I reckoned Dr North would be a happy bunny.. PDT_Armataz_01_37

When the weather is better, and I'm a little bit more fit, I'd love to. Travelling is not easy at the moment.

Yup ... writing a book is actually quite a lonely affair, and incredibly intense. I put an incredible amount of effort into it, so having someone review it is an enormous event. Indeed I am a happy bunny.

I've already put an order in at my local bookshop...can't wait. I'm visiting Bradford in beginning of May, can I be cheeky and request a moniker for said book?

Just let me know an approximate time frame when you think you could and I'll get started on promoting. I started sponsoring a fortnightly book review in our local free weekend paper and I'll be sure to slip in a review as part of promotion process.

Can I ask where the photo on the cover was taken? One of the chaps in the picture looks like my grandfather, who was drafted to help clear bomb sites in London by the Home Guard during the blitz.

Thanks

It was supplied by the Kent Messenger ...

Unfortunately, it was marked as "undated" ... "place unknown". This is not uncommon, as the details of photographs were very often removed by the censor so, when it came to file them, no one could say when and where the were taken. We can assume, however, that this was taken in Kent, although not necessarily in 1940.

Other pics of interest are here ... this was my shortlist ...

Many thanks, and for the other links, some good photos there too.

Seems unlikely then that is my grandfather,it was a long shot I know, but I will check exactly where he was posted as anything south of Middlesbrough is classed as "London" to folk in Sunderland. PDT_Armataz_01_22
