Seriously I consider that practically it's a long way off and the EU stands more chance of imploding before they are in a position to implement it.

When it comes to lavishing money on idiot projects (a huge amount of which is trousered by the Eurocrats along the way no doubt) and attempting to control its 'citizens' the EU never stops. The only way to deal with this evil construct is to oppose it at every step and then finally leave it. Hear that view from any of the Lib/Lab/Con sock puppets?

That is why I will be voting UKIP. For all their faults, they are the only mainstream party that advocates immediate withdrawl from the EU and for starters that is enough for me.

This is typical of EU waste and is precisely why people hate the EU.

To create a technology like Galileo which is going to be hugely costly and fundamentally unnecessary, the EU then feels the need to justify itself by using the aforementioned technology to spy on its citizens with a view to dispatching all freedom of the individual

There is no question that the EU is need of reform, and Libertas are the party to do it.

With commitments to Accountability, Democracy, Transparency, and cutting waste/inefficiency, they have the best interests of the European citizen at heart.

This is great news, especially for the Brits, as we already hate the idea of ID cards, because for all our faults we do have a real and deeply ingrained affection for our freedoms. If they try to bring this in, then the 55 % who want out, will very quickly get to 80 % plus.

The other good news is that the Green Tosser will have to bring this into being......but he doesn't do the EU.....so how will he sell this outrage, while hideing the EU element, without looking like a deeply unpleasant control freak.

Actually, it might be in the long term a very good idea to implement this police state monitoring and control as written, and as far ranging and quickly as possible in the UK. It will likely be a very efficient way of enraging the masses, leading to mad totalitarian schemes such as this being banned forthwith.

Interesting take that this is a backhanded way to fund Galileo. The thought never occurred to them that there is a free service out there already, called GPS? I am sure it has. But it isn't the revenue angle we should be worried about, there are always ways government will get into our pockets, its the tracking angle.

In the early 1990s, the US government mandated all new cell phones contain a locating system to help emergency services (911 calls) respond more precisely to cell phone calls. GPS is now almost universally used for this although a triangulation system was approved also. What is little known is these phones can be "pinged" even when turned off, yielding its location. This vulnerability caused the Hamas leadership to pitch their phones lest they, like others, find a JDAM landing on their heads. A recent CIA Director, after several operatives were exposed in a "rendition" operation by their cell phones, sent all case officers back to relearn basic tradecraft. He said they should have realized the only way to prevent cell phone tracking is to remove the batteries. Good advice!

In the US we have OnStar, a satellite radio/cell phone/emergency service system. It too can be pinged. Often it comes installed, but not activated, on many new cars.

The use of on-street surveillance cameras, far higher powered cordless phones (who needs a 1200 foot range phone?), and proposed legislation to allow airport security personnel to inspect laptop hard drives for "copyright infringement" is ample evidence of government's insatiable appetite to monitor our private lives.

Impssible to reform the EU,the institution will always be targetted by totalitarians.Simply put such institutions should not be permitted.

The "spy in the cab" will increase vehicle thefts,certain communities will be unaffected by the devices.No doubt those who don't pay the congestion charge.
