It seems we're rubbish at producing rubbish. In fact, so appalling is the quality of our rubbish that our councils can't even give it away. They are having to make the ultimate sacrifice and bury it in holes in the ground. Not even China wants it any more. That is the thrust of this piece which tells us that the recvcling system in many councils is so poor that it fails to get a good price in the market. That in turn means those councils have to stockpile rubbish in warehouses and then send it to landfill.

At least you can talk about it. I pass 2 times a week a old textile factory near Hamburg, Approx 1.5km long X 500m wide and 25-30m high, it is full with compressed plastic rubbish to the roof, and apart from the security on the gate is not to be seen or spoken of.ssssshhhh ! There is about 2-3 million euros of earth moving equipment that was used inside the building now parked outside with trees growing through them, one of the guards that I know said that the stink inside from residue and dead rats ( they use 250kg of poison a week) is only controlled by the filtering system installed 2 years ago at the cost of 5 million plus euros.

Nick Herbert, the Tory Defra spokesman, said the Government should be offering incentives to make sure people sort recycling rather than punishing people.

“The public must have confidence that recycling makes a difference,” he said. “But the Government’s whole approach to waste is flawed.

"They need to stop punishing families with proposed bin taxes and start making it easier and more rewarding for people to recycle in an environmentally sound way.”

There are 635 assorted dolts hanging around Westminster, with damn all to do, plus thousands more equally useless hangers on, maybe we should try and teach them how to wash and iron our rubbish.....

Yeh. How about the exercise yard of Dartmoor prison as the venue ? Might even cure a few of AGW delusion, as a bonus.
