A nice little earner

Zac Goldsmith, chairman and director of the Ecologist magazine – and Conservative Party candidate for Richmond Park – must be delighted with the partnership between Ecotricity and the Conservative Party.

Not only is Ecotricity offering a prize to Conservative Party Members of £400-worth of free electricity to the lucky winner of its competition, all entrants get a free year’s subscription of the loss-making Ecologist magazine.

This is too much

This blog is characterised as "right wing" and it is fair to say that our natural sympathies are with the Conservative Party. But, as readers will have gathered from our many posts, our support for the Party is conditional. We regard ourselves as "candid friends", critical when we feel the need, especially when we think that the Party is departing from its principles or taking a wrong direction. And it is doing precisely that.

When will the grassroots of the tory party realize that their HQ is totally corrupt, inept at politics and incapable of running the country. The longer they remain loyal to the present system the further the country will have to fall before someone with the balls to sort it out can come along.

Hutton is increasingly stressing the message about energy security. The risk of power outages is highlighted by the Mail's front page headline today - not fully backed up by its story, but it's keeping visible the message that conventional power supplies have to be upgraded.

I don't recall hearing much on this from the Tories. I suppose it would require grown-up decisions.

Against this background windpower is worse than irrelevant. Increasing focus on power shortages and energy security will doubtless bring home how pointless and expensive windpower is. The Tories will be leaving themselves open to castigation by Hutton, even though he has come late to the energy security issue.

With their facile approach they deserve it.

Well yes the Tory party HQ is about as conservative as Barack Obama. Cameron plans to use Obama's campaign slogan and no doubt many of his policies in the election. Centre Left? More like far left of centre. For a real dose of conservative thinking you have to read Daniel Hannan today in the Telegraph. Any bets being taken as to how long before Cameron gives him the order of the boot!

How dumb do you have to be, to make McStalins band of incompetent cretins look smart.......I am speechless, I just can't believe how stupid this is.....

This stunt has to trump Gummers, hamburger/BSE lunacy. Who ever thought it up, should be tied to one of those blades for eternity and you may as well tie that whole sad shower, masqueradeing as an opposition front bench, on blades as well.......they'll do less damage.

Here is an archetypal (i.e. Non-Liberal) right-wing ethic: the restraint of superfluous desire.

This is why I am against drug taking; it is a deviant and degenerative behaviour. Cameron, having applied lots of Cocaine Hydroxide to his nasal membranes has now decided that "feeling" is a good way of evaluating things. Naturally his judgement becomes distorted and muddled as is reflected in the new Conservative party logo. The relaxation of the taboos against drug usage has assisted in our culture's decline into a babble theatre of sentiment and fatuous imagery.

John Page you say wind power is expensive, as appose to the cheap nuclear power stations. do you know anything about win power or do you just not like the look of them?

Try reading the blog instead of asking silly questions.

Guest, Watt for Watt nuclear is a lot cheaper than wind not to mention vastly more practical from an engineering standpoint. This is just the facts of the matter.

Here are some comparisons from a purely economic perspective: http://www.habitat21.co.uk/wind24.html

Did you have a point?

This is gesture politics of the saddest sort and bodes horribly as to how the Green Tosser is liable to govern....next it will be an Adopt a Polar bear campaign.....with web cams broadcasting live from Arctic.....though what he will do when Papa bear drops by and eats his own young, during a live broadcast for yr kiddies tea party, is another matter.

Good posting here on the "Greenhouse Effect" that everyone thinks they know so much about, but apparently really don't as you will find when you read. The most surprising (yet really not) part to me was that over and over Mr Kininmonth, meteorologist and head of Australia’s National Climate Centre from 1986 to 1998, and author of Climate Change: A Natural Hazard, says that "Essentially, the role of greenhouse gases is to cool the atmosphere" and this works with "surface warming from solar radiation" to form clouds. Clouds both heat and cool the atmosphere, trapping heat under them but radiating incoming solar energy away from the ground. They are the great equalizer. "But this takes the wind from the sails of the AGW folk," says Mr Kininmonth. I would have to agree.

It's a pity we can't set up our own Wind Farm (Subsidy Farm).
Just think about it.... we could earn squillions for our EUReferendum Blog and at the same time demonstrate exactly what a Wind Farm is really about.

Sorry if this sounds like treason & perfidy....I will go and quietly lie down in a darkened room.

It isn't "about win power",it is about "lose power",before we are plunged into the Stygian utopia of a turbine on every hill, a propeller on every head, let us remember no electricity,no modern civilisation. We won't even be able to build the bloody turbines without electricity.

Perhaps one should pronounce the company name as "echo-tricity." There's more hollowness than green there!
