Cameron Fobs English Voters Off With A Fudge

Postby The Huntsman » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:07 pm

Some might think that the man who once opined "I look forward to the day when the Westminster Parliament is just a council chamber in Europe," was the least appropriate person to be put in charge of the Conservative party's reforms to our Constitution. Ken Clarke's proposals on English Votes for English Laws merely amount to rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic he so clearly despises.

With 80 % of all our legislation comming from Brussels, what difference does any of this make. Clarke knows that and these meaningless proposals, are just window dressing.

As for the Green Tosser he will be as disliked as McStalin within a year of being PM, as he can do nothing to stop the EU's crazed rule, driveing every sane person up the wall. Plus he is already showing plenty of reasons to believe he has his head on backwards, a pre-requisite for acting out PC lunancy, by sacking the likes of Mercer, yet backing Spellman.

The UKIP proposal is the most sensible solution to the West Lothian question (also the most sensible answer to the EU question).

For those not familiar with the UKIP answer to the West Lothian question, the idea is that UK MPs meet in Westminster ¾ of their time to discuss UK matters, then the various nationals will return to their respective capitals to discuss their particular national interests, leaving English MPs at Westminster to discuss English matters. This has the merit of abolishing the unnecessary & expensive additional tier of MSPs, Welsh Assembly members, NI parliament members & much of the bureaucracy attached to them.

I'm for a similar solution, essentially dual voting rights for the members of the welsh assembly, scotish parliament and northern irish assembly, so they vote on national issues at their own parliaments and vote on UK wide issues in westminster, then england only issues would be voted on in westminster at all other times.

The problem with that is that some people seem to think that level of national autonomy threatens the union
