To mark the start of France'’s six month presidency of the EU, Sarkozy has ordered the Eiffel Tower to be lit up in blue with yellow stars, symbolising the EU flag. The "spectacle" is to last two months from 30 June, requiring eighty giant projectors on the ground and 100 more on the tower.

This contrasts with the tower's standard orange-gold night-time lighting, introduced on New Year's Eve in 1985. However, blue lighting to celebrate the EU has been used before. The Eiffel Tower was turned blue on 9 May 2006 (pictured), to mark the 20th celebration of Europe Day. On that occasion it did not boast the ring of stars.

Good idea. The frogs have invented fly-paper for cruise missiles.

Best to be safe.

Alternatively he may be proclaiming that, although it may look like the EU on the outside, it is actually the French Empire inside.

That is what he might think he is doing!

During the Occupation of France the Germans flew, I believe, a Swastika Flag beneath the arch of the Arc de Triomphe. Perhaps we ought to hang a EuroFlag in the same manner to make the point....

Five little pigs were in the forest. One day they found corn on the ground and ate is. That continued for a while. Then they found a fence on part of the plot, but the corn was there so they ate it. The next day a second fence was built, forming an "L", but the corn was there so they were not afraid and ate the corn. On the third day the corn was there, but the fence had become a "U". On the fourth day, the fence had become a circle, with a door in it, but the golden corn beckoned in the middle of it so the pigs entered and gorged and left through the door. On the fifth day, the pigs returned, saw the corn, entered the fence and ate. While they were eating, the door closed.

And then the "fence builders" ate the pigs.
