Dellers is in fine form with a piece asking why Cameron is so keen on covering up for the EU, when compliance with EU diktats cause him so much political grief. In raising the issue, EURef is quoted in relation to the "Big Brother plans to spy on all internet visits, emails and texts". Booker also gets a look in, with his comments about the EU and the "pasty tax".

These are two issues where the EU involvement has been kept out of the limelight, and James offers the suggestion posited by Sue Cameron that the craven behaviour of the politicians simply reflects the fact that civil servants rather than our "elected parliamentary representatives" who really call the shots.

"Here, we have something which is actually initiated by the UK government, inspired by the EU rather then a specific requirement."

That has been their way, they are always at least one step ahead to avoid drawing attention to their long term plan? Decimalisation of our currency in readiness for our joining the Euro is one, then there are many more, that's the dishonest way they do it and get away with it?

If it's so marvellous to be in the EU, why is the full negative truth about it always being so deliberately concealed? As you say:
Quote:
there is massive support for continued membership of the EU within the political classes (and the media).

But this political & media support comes from another source hiding behind them. This is those who finance the politicians, who as far as the Tories, Liberal wing of the Lib-Dems, & some too of New Labour's main proponents are concerned, all know each other socially - or know similar kinds of people as those who dominate big business, The City, local government, much of the trendy media (especially broadcasting), well-meaning NGOs, higher education, & alumni of private schools etc etc.

Of this large group of influential people in Britain, many personally benefit from the UK's EU membership, & "have the ear" of all but the extreme left. This is "the establishment" that always seems so perfectly British, & usually is persuasively so. For example, they might well say condescendingly: "the EU is so good for Britain, & people who think otherwise must be miss-guided trouble-makers". So the 1st choice the establishment offers the rest of us is to call on us to admire their (ie the establishment's) actions & choices. But if us masses don't like the establishment's offerings, then they nonetheless carry on - but instead use deception to conceal the truth from us the public, while continuing on a bit more discretely but in a similar vein as they were before.

Your final paragraph:

Quote:
The bottom line in most cases, though, is that there is massive support for continued membership of the EU within the political classes (and the media). If there was political will, the politicians could over-ride the civil servants and have us out of the EU tomorrow. But they don't want to, so it won't happen. And it is that which Cameron – and all the rest – are really covering up.

sums it up quite well. And THAT is the REAL problem you face.

My betting would be that there is some private agreement, formal or informal, seeking to prevent national politicians from playing the EU card in order to get themselves out of a hole, even the rare hole they have managed to dig for themselves. Cameron getting a word of warning from the permanent secretary before his speech writers set to work sort of thing.

Of course I'm probably wrong because this would be a non-starter with our ever vigilant free press on the case PDT_Armataz_02_11

Good. Because trusting the empty suits in Westminster and a "press release" media never ends well. Shame they can't see it. (should have been forced to study History perhaps PDT_Armataz_01_36 )

Hilarious except for when his own door gets kicked in at midnight and he spends the next decade in a "re-edumukashon camp". They never see it coming. Things are different now. We get 60 years of peace before such dick heads believe that "it's different now" and fractionally thereafter such people meet the midnight-kidney-boot interface. Good luck with that one.
