If Moonbat wants to trouble himself about undue influence, why isn't he worried about this? It cannot be right that an elected politicians – with a salary and expenses from the public purse - is so egregiously enriching himself.

But this is not any politician, but a senior Labour man - David Miliband. He earned, we are told, earned "a staggering £20,000 a day as an adviser for a company investing in green technology", and was paid £70,000 for just three-and-a-half days spent working for VantagePoint CleanTech in California.

John Major was brought down by 'Sleaze' among the Tories. Now they're all at it.
I think all payments received by sitting MPs should be deducted from their taxpayer salaries, if they're to be allowed at all.

Seriously? this has been going on for decades if not in the entire history of the UK Parliament. In the 1980s I recall there were Tory MPs who had directorships running into the dozens.

Yes, of course it's been going on for decades. However, in this case the sheer humbug is remarkable as well as the clear question of peddling influence. What have they been paying 20 grand a day for? Surely not his breathtaking technical knowledge of green investments.

everywhere ... except in the US, where every cent a politician gets is declared, examined, sniffed at to see if it stinks, and a transparent record is held so that decades down the line people can scream "x pol took 13 dollars from y unethical body/person back in 198x"

And are American politicians any more trustworthy or competent as a result?

What makes this so very different is the sheer scale of the enterprise - and the degree to which this buys political influence. This is not incidental to his role as an MP. His position as an MP is being used primarily as a money-making opportunity.

And Adrian Yalland in the Guardian believes MPs live a fundamentally inhumane life and that very few go into politics to get rich? Perhaps he has not look at the Members Interests List? Perhaps he forgets those who having left politics are now very well paid by companies and act as lobbyists?

I really do think the time has come for us to slaughter these venal bastards!

Plenty of suggestions have been made, see below for example, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for something to happen: http://www.transparency.org.uk/publicat ... s/download

Three-and-a-half days' work? That wouldn't count as a job entry: no wonder A4e are having problems  His Personal Advisor will assess if he needs some help to improve his job retention skills at his next interview.

It's in their nature. DAVID MILLIPEDES eat decaying leaves and other dead plant matter, moisturising the food with secretions and then scraping it in with their jaws.

No, they normally wait until they are out of the game and the spotlight has dimmed before taking up a "consultancy" job with some company that 'somehow' took the taxpayer for suitcases full of cash under their 'administration'.
