The difference between this approach and this tells you all you need to know about the nature of modern government – and the character of David Cameron Esq.

Has Cameron got a character? I think he's some kind of cypher.

A classic paradox, I suppose ... being characterless is itself a distinctive characteristic.

Ah yes, but one must allow for the inflation of printing all those pound notes in the intervening years. Just as the US dollar became the JC penny (for Jimmy Carter) in the late 70s, and has fallen even further under Helicopter Ben (Bernanke) and his ilk, your pound has been SIGNIFICANTLY devalued over the years. Of course, that might not explain the FULL difference between the two costs, but then one has to expect to pay more upkeep for such a fine leader as The Boy, in comparison to the doddy old hag that Ms. Thatcher is made out to be in the recent film...

Official State homes should be stately & historic sites. Subject to historic and council review any requests made by a residing govt. official will never be enjoyed by that same govt. official due to the mind boggling lengthy process. Head of state or not, they should suffer the wrath of the busy bodies and govt. pension boys just like the rest of us.

This has nothing to do with "modern politics".

It's the difference between a true Conservative and a cloaked Socialist spending other people's money.

Not entirely off topic, Zero Hedge today published an interesting article and video presentation of Philip Bagus about his book titled "The Tragedy of the Euro

Although you need some patience to listen to Philip Bachus the content of his presentation is well worth your time.

This will make you smile Richard.

Quote:
The whole country (this blog included) cheered when David Cameron denied Merkozy their proposed change to the EU Treaties. The Prime Minister's poll ratings are better than at any time since the election, and 70 per cent of Conservative party activists regard his veto as the greatest act of his premiership. Yet those cheering the most lustily are often vague about precisely what the PM vetoed.

Better late, to the grand realisation, than keeping it in the sand.
