Public indifference is probably the great killer, although some pundits put it down to a lack of ambition on the part of the negotiators. Either way, The Independent is very far from being alone in predicting deadlock at the forthcoming COP17 climate summit at Durban.

The amount of human energy being expended is terrifying, with 10,000 officials from 194 countries meeting to discuss the next moves. And although the number of hangers-on and journalists attending will not match Copenhagen levels, about 25,000 people in all are expected to attend.

However, says the Independent, "entrenched disagreements" over renewing the current climate treaty, the 1997 Kyoto Protocol – between China and India on the one hand and Japan, Canada and Russia on the other – look likely to produce a stalemate at best, and at worst, a collapse of the talks.

The star player has been the weather itself. The World is into its 30 year cooling cycle now and now amount of diddling the data will hide it.
Will they have the decency to find a scapegoat? Or just find another cult to join?

Not really true, though always popular with the Bush-haters. America was never in Kyoto.
Gore signed the treaty as a symbolic gesture, knowing full well that it would never be ratified by the Senate, largely due to their having already passed a motion 95-0 saying they wouldn't.
This is why Clinton kept it in the bottom drawer of his desk and never sent it to the Senate for ratification. When Bush got there, he cleaned it out along with whatever else Clinton left in the desk, of which further deponent sayeth not ...

Technically, you are quite correct. Amazing how the virus gets into the system and stays there.

Yeah, the gobsh*te Marxist UN/EU/African despots.....+ assorted eco-windbags are all gonna turn up, the western taxpayer foots the bill and nothing ever comes out of these idiot conferences except, more taxpayer pain.

If John Prescott can claim [with a tad of legitimacy] that he was in part responsible for the Kyoto farce, then truly who could ever take this annual howling at the moon gathering of the madpack seriously?

Not me.

And, the subtext to all of this is, Agenda 21, one world government, Club of Rome, Bilderbergs, Davos Banking frats, UN, EU = same old sh**:

"we know best, you will do as we say!"

Well Foxtrot Oscar to the effin lot of 'em and Chris Huhne.

Just read that link. Pretty amazing that the likes of Camilliclegg (Cameron, Milliband, Clegg) plus especially Huhne the loon are willing to ignore it. Well actually it is par for the course with these idiots and our other leaders in Brussels and their puppets in Westminster.

As long as there's a gullible congregation for the shamans of the AGW cult, they will continue their hedonistic life-styles at the expense of those who strive to pay their outrageous tricity bills...Come fly with us, come fly down to Durban; or wherever & where limos will take us to star-spangled cornucopic hôtels offering only the finest...such jolly jollies!
I propose a permanent venue for these parasites...Agades? St. Helena? Vanuatu? Hades?

Well said, Pemanent ExPat. It's such a long haul, batting down the whole length of Africa, and surely they could earn themselves all kinds of carbon credibility if they made it a one-way trip. Really, I'd think it even better if they just continued on their way to Antarctica: after all, it's getting quite warm enough for them, and there's plenty of space for a Neu Society!

Why would they bother to come back, just to use the money on research grants that'll bribe certain universities to come up with the 'right' (or is that left?) answers?

At least the Heads of State are setting a good example. From : The New Nostradamus of the North on Nov 25th.
Quote:
Over 20.000 [climate tourists] delegates are expected to attend the COP-17, but only eight heads of state have so far confirmed their attendance. Compare that with more than 100 heads of state and government at the Copenhagen COP-15 in 2009.

The ones with their hands expectantly out for the 'ready'.

Quelle surprise.

Even when they bully, cajole and threaten, they still can't reach an agreement, AGW nutters, green lunatics, power mad apparats and absolutely incompetent too!

You really couldn't make it up.................... er but then again, I suppose making it up - is what [Durban] it's all about.

Massive breakthrough. Not just drip-drip-drip.
Biggest selling Sunday fingers BBC as being dishonestly biased, not just stupid.
The BBC DID deliberately excude the likes of Dr North from TV, radio and online.
They ran expensive seminars instructing staff to exclude global warming sceptics.
We need this week's blogs and daily msm to have to run with this.
