The sentiment is fine, except that, once again, the MSM cannot cope with the fact that none of these are or ever will be eurosceptics. They are politicians – and Tory politicians at that.

The supreme irony of Monday's debate, the Mail continues, "is that it was called in answer to a mass public petition … In the event, the e-petition gimmick served only to highlight and deepen the yawning democratic deficit between the rulers and the ruled".

All true, Dr North, but I think that the rather witty new e-petition ( http://epetitions.direct.gov.u... ), noting how unhappy we are with the way the pols have treated the referendum debate and asking for proper reconsideration of an EU referendum, may well show the way to use the e-petition system as an ironic exposee of the pseudo-democracy fraud! Already nearly 5,000 signatures and counting - thus growing much faster than the original e-petition!

The petition which generated the Debate maybe was not an e-petition, but the second one in that actual e-series is active, and with over 5000 signatures in the first day, shows exactly the sense of grievance within the electorate of this Nation (at least the ones who can actually read, write and occasionally think).

So let us hope that the e-version prospers and when the sunny lands appear, maybe we will have a say in how and why we are governed!

In a land of 60 plus million, unless you get 100,000 on the first day, all you are doing is parading your own weakness ... confirming to those who would be comforted by the thought, that this is a minority preoccupation, with very little actual support.

Perhaps you could remind us how many references to 'referism' occurred within a day of your introduction of the concept?

It did have Jeremy Clarkson, however - and what other epetition has got anywhere near that one? If your view is correct, then we might as well give up on any and every attempt to influence politicians and/or change anything - I am close to that defeatist position, but not quite there yet!

That is not a defeatist position. Politicians are guardians of the status quo ... change comes from outside the poli-bubble. You make change happen, and the politicians follow.
