It must be 10 years ago now when the Democracy Movement organised a march in London with participation of all the main pro independence groups. We marched from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square and I reckon there were probably 10,000 people there - big but not huge. We were getting a tremendous amount of support from passing drivers hooting their horns.

One young lad climbed on his grandfather's shoulders and got to a rope supporting an EU flag on one of the Park Lane hotels. He hauled it down. Police took no action. After that It was noticeable that no other building on the line of march sported an EU flag. In Ireland, I think he would have been the subject of a song by evening!

There were speeches in Trafalgar Square from Irish and other MEPs as well as British leaders. BBC cameras were in evidence, as were small groups of pro-EU demonstrators with EU flags. who received good humoured joshing from the crowd. The climax was a large demonstration of bikers who roared round the square several times - a very creditable, noteworthy event.

London broadcast stations covered the rally but nationally - nothing at all. Yet a demonstration by a few dozen people with a racial grievance outside No.10 Downing Street was given prominent treatment. When we complained to the BBC we were told blandly that they hadn't reported it because nothing noteworthy had occurred. When we asked "Do you mean there must be violence to get reported?" they became evasive. I later wondered whether they had set up the pro-EU demonstrators in the hope of that.

Anyway, the moral seemed to be - even if you do march against the EU, nobody will know about it because you are unpersons.

Edward, regarding your posting - and that is why there must be a few high profile seeings-to for the socialist bbc to start to report on the anti-EU sentiment in our country. And I would suggest a few bbc entities as the first to be given the historic pleasure of starting the return to normality.

You refer to Cabinet Ministers. From now on - in the interest of accuracy - can we call them cabaret ministers.
