Greenhouse gas emissions increased by a record amount last year. We now have the highest carbon output in history. Hopes of holding global warming to safe levels are all but out of reach.

This is according to unpublished estimates from the International Energy Agency, and the "shock rise" means the goal of preventing a temperature rise of more than 2 degrees Celsius – which scientists say is the threshold for potentially "dangerous climate change" – is likely to be just "a nice Utopia".

"Greenhouse gas emissions increased by a record amount last year.."

Oh dear, we're all going to die... wait a minute... The Mauna Loa measuring station shows consecutive FALLS in CO2 concentration for the last four months. How can this be?

Unless, of course:

a) this news is based on a biased estimate instead of a proper measurement, or
b) Human CO2 emissions are too small to drive world CO2 concentrations, or
c) Both of the above....

http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/ , if anyone's interested...

Here's Lucia's plot of global mean temps for the last ten years vs the IPCC model projections

Who is it who weighs all this carbon dioxide?
Then there is this from the Telegraph about the wind letting us down.

I like the comments about the sun spots declining for the next 40 years, with the comment that they think the sun spots and the resulting changes to the jet stream caused the Little Ice Age.

Having seen the Severn freeze over at Worcester this winter, I rather think we could be having winter fairs on the river again in my life time (just).

We're domed!

Clearly, when reality doesn't match the models, we need to readjust reality.

Plainly. PDT_Armataz_01_37
I actually think they may try that, it's worked in the past.
Can I have a gripe about carbon emissions?
Why can't the bastards be honest & say Carbon DIOXIDE?

Counting Cats has a good video up with a sample of some of the refreshingly robust debate happening down under on AGW.

The feebleness of debate, versus totally one sided propagandising and associated political hobby horse jockeying in UK media needs to be addressed.

Any Beeboids passing by here take note.

The past two weeks have been so hot we've had to put the central heating back on.

Er ... France, Russia, Japan and Canada have told the G8 they would not join a second round of carbon cuts under the Kyoto Protocol at United Nations talks this year and the US has reiterated it would remain outside the treaty. Thank you Dr. N!! A little justification for hope and a lovely picture (the first one, that is)!

Us too ... mowed the grass yesterday ... for this time of year, less than half the volume of cuttings we would expect ... plenty of rain, but no heat to make the grass grow.

If the CO2 level falls below about 150 ppm we will all die, because that's the level below which plant life cannot survive.

If the CO2 level goes up to about 5000 ppm we will start to feel uncomfortable (according to US Navy recommendations)

Polytunnel farmers usually keep the CO2 level at about 1000 ppm to improve crop yield.

We are currently running around the bottom of the viable CO2 range, at 390 ppm. I am a keen gardener, and would be happy with it at 800 ppm. Does anyone want to join me in a pressure group to lobby Parliament to double the CO2 level?

(Just kidding. I don't think there is really anything we can do which will have the least effect on it...)

As The Indy is running this story, I assume they could not get an interview with Cheryl Cole.
