Unpopular as it was at the time to disagree with the BBC narrative of goodies (Kosovans) and baddies (Serbs), and heartbreaking as it was to watch The BBC/ITN coverage of the Yugaslavian Civil War and the sheer number of people on the border with Macedonia, we just should NOT have got involved. It was not our war. Moreover Kosovo had planted a lot of bombs in Serbia which the BBC neglected to mention and unlike The UK the Serbs would not turn the other cheek.
There were perhaps no goodies. It was a war between baddies, unforgiving vendetta driven tribal enemies revenging atrocities over many generations of hate. It was not our war.
Because we did get involved, the first mass wave of asylum seekers naturally sought out The UK (or rather England) and it was impossible to stop opportunist crooks and gangsters sliding in with those fleeing for their lives.
Now it should be an axiom of government that all wars we are involved in inevitably lead to a mass wave of asylum seekers to The UK and also hardened criminals disguised as asylum seekers join in the race to England.
Surely we would not in 2011 be so stupid to get involved in African Wars ?!
There can only be 100 million or so Africans desperate to move from poverty to England benefits.
Of course who now has the capacity in North Africa to stop mass movement up from South and Central Africa for a quick boat trip from Libyia or Tunisia to Cyprus, Crete, Malta, Italy, Sicily, Corsica, the small Greek islands, Spain, Ibiza, Majorca and Minorca ? If Gaddafi tried, we would bomb him.
Of course getting to any of The EU countries EQUALS getting to the UK. Only Ireland pays bigger welfare benefits than The UK. Where would any rational asylum seeker go - especially if they speak English ? The Irish have more land per person but the money there has run out ! The UK, at least outside Scotland and North Wales and maybe Cumbria, is full to the brim. It is a logistical problem of management of resources and space NOT lack of compassion which is bringing this to a head.
We can not import another fifty million people in two years.
We are literally bombing Africans and Asians (Afghanistan, Iraq) into moving to The UK.
Nice one Dave...nice one !!
