The stupid headline of the week surely has to be the Financial Times headline which declares: "Cut in fuel duty placates motorists". I haven't spoken to anyone since the budget speech who hasn't treated little Georgie's "penny off" with derision. But then the FT actually tells you why that should be, in the very article that has such a daft headline:

For a two-car family, the monthly cost of filling up petrol tanks has risen by £34.40 to £283.47 over the past year, according to the AA. Motorist groups said that the cut in fuel duty would provide relief for drivers, but the average savings for families would equal just £14 a year.

Considering petrol has gone up by around 10p in a month or two, I'd like to use those pennies as they did with Abe Lincoln.

A number of my local petrol stations put up their prices by 1p yesterday before 6pm. How convenient.

I just got this from my web-hosting company

Next Charge: $144.00 for the next 12 months of service* to be charged on 4/23/2011, 30 days before the package ends. In addition, there is a Wind Energy fee of $.57/month

Writing my reason for termination of service may take some time, but it will be pure joy.

I have to admit that I'm unaffected by the rises in petrol prices as my earnings are several times that of the average household so, for me, not an issue. But I know what's a-foot and, as a British nationalist, I don't want my fellow-countrymen being destroyed by a treasonous Establishment - even though I will survive. However, as I've stated before and has been written on this site recently, the middle-classes will (maybe) only be roused to action when they suffer individually in sufficient numbers to create a mass. The increases in fuel costs should hit them directly, perhaps enough to draw them away from Strictly/Easties/Corrie or whatever their preferred stupefiant is.
