A small salvo from Szamuely. Does Dave really know what he's doing? Well, there's always room for accidents, but this isn't one of them. Such is the hyperbole from the hand wavers and the babies that not one is asking the key question – what is the national interest, reporting without a bat of an eyelid that the RAF is now preparing to use Storm Shadows against Libyan targets.

The national interest is saying to the world that if we can do something about murdering despots, we will. It's always in the national interst to say that if you defy us we will smack the bejesus out of you.

But only when they've lost control of the oil and gas wells, and we can't rely on them to honour their contracts? Then we knock out one homicidal madman, to clear the way for another set of homicidal madmen to take over? Yay! That's really in the national interest.

Think of it as entertainment then. A no fly zone is probably cheaper than any number of lame shows on the BBC. Why report the news when you can make it? I can't think of anything more entertaining thn GR4's dropping big bombs on arabs and if we save a few people from being massacred, thats a win on the side. Beats the crap out of Strictly Come Dancing on Ice.

According to reports, the BBC paid for £400,000 an episode for the second series of Heroes in 2007.

Yeah ... but can't they keep it to Tomahawks? Last known cost, about £150,000 each ... although it may be slightly more ... even double. But I do draw the line at zapping Arabs with Storm Shadows ... not only are they so damn expensive, the profits go to the Kermits.

I don't think we should spare any expense in doing what should be the national pastime. But yeah, dont see why we should give the frogs the vapours from our excrement.

Spot on, as is your post.

When is it in the national interest to beggar further an already beggared population merely so that an ambitious buffoon can strut and strike poses in the global arena? There was a time when we thought of countries like that as banana republics.

If our concern is to stop despots from murdering millions of people should we not take action against them when they seize power rather than forty years later?

My opinion ois that, assuming there is a deliberate interest in this, it is to weaken national soverignty everywhere (The UN's "authorisation"v of this is illegal because its Charter clearly linits its remit giving it no authority to intervene in internal matters and confirming the soverign rights of nations.

The New World Order wish a single world authority not limited by either national sovereignty not their own constitutional limits.

This is a major step in that direction, with the Chinese now largely on board. Such a unified authority is the only thing that could be worse for human progress than all out nuclear war because it would be able to enforce any sort of backward movement, like warming alarmism, without outside competition.

You have a point there ... this is a UN war not a British war ... Dave is just following orders.

The way things are going we'll soon be pushed to send a squadron of Westland Wapitis to drop hand grenades on them.

This action is folly on the part of The Grooovey One, but may hasten slightly The Glorious Day.

This is a globalist war for oil and gas. "Dave" is surely being lined up with a cushy job for his troubles.

There is no suggestion Gadaffi was going to go around massacre his own people. This was a fix up. Yemeni regime shooting protesters from rooftops should convince you of that.

On the contrary, in Libya it is the rebels who are the proto-ethnic-cleansers.

Why? Gadaffi imported 1 million African immigrants in Libya, and he doesn't want to lose them because they are vital to his rule. He'll probably give them guns.

Other African Union nations, and through them China and Russia, may come to Libya's aid in one way or another as they have issued a statement opposing this globalist war to steal Libya's resources.

I hope le Tosseur vert is happy that he followed the advice of the RAF Bomber Barons, and kept the Tornados at the expense of the Harriers. Instead of having a carrier on hand a hundred miles off the shore of Libya, we now have Tornados making a 3000 mile bombing mission from Norfolk, having to be refueled in flight on the way back. How much is that costing? The fact is the Boy, a wet behind the ears PR spiv, dumped the most flexible, cost effective method of delivering air power anywhere in the world, at the behest of latterday Bomber Harrises who think you can bomb anywhere in the world from the flatlands of East Anglia. I am starting to think the Air Staff should be indicted under RICO, they are plainly a criminal conspiracy against the national interest.

Who or what are the “globalist” whose war for oil and gas you assert this is.

Do they have names?

An address?

An organisation?

Where do they meet and who is their leader (or leaders)?
