In anticipation of the Barnsley by-election, after the seat was suddenly vacated by the latest in a long line of crook, Euroslime Dave has asked Darren Gough, the former England cricketer, to stand for the Conservatives. Apparently, Euroslime made a personal telephone call to Gough, who quite sensibly thought it was a prank and hung up. A hapless Tory MP had to call Gough back and tell him it was the real thing.

God Bless Darren Gough.
Three cheers for Darren Gough.
I will now buy him a copy of Richard's book and post it to Mr Gough (if Richard will sign it and write a nice message).
Mr Gough is of course a TalkSport Radio presenter and prolific after dinner speaker, as well as cricket TV pundit.

What sort of idiocy possessed the fool, thinking that Darren Gough would be a good choice as an MP, even if he had managed to take the seat? Clearly Gough has a clearer idea of what is needed to make a good MP, viz a compliant, mindless, unprincipled toady, and knows it ain't him, babe. He's too intelligent and sensible.

Oh dear. Maybe we've got him wrong. The BBC Radio 4 news has just reported this story and says that Gough is disappointed that he hasn't time to stand, but that he would be supporting the Conservative party in the forthcoming election. Another broken reed.

What do you expect from a man who was once employed as a marketing drone for Carlton Television?

Eee. I remember, I remember ... when Roy Mason had t'biggest labour majority England. It's not cricket, is it - expectin' that lad to play on a frozen and unlevel pitch? So I agree wi' Mr. Buxton!
