Heffer, it seems, is tapping into the same mood that we're detecting. The Westminster slime, with the comfortable salaries and pensions, secure behind their concrete barriers and machine-gun toting cops, still haven't got it. But out in the country, there is a mood. You can touch it, feel it, cut it with a knife. It is there and it is growing.

You got it right Richard, I have yet to see another explain so well the governments game of robbing Peter to pay Paul while the money goes into the jukebox to serenade musical chairs .

If one is a Doctor. Engineer, Chemist, Teacher, Plumber, Truck driver, etc, you have to study do practical, take, and pass exams and show that you are intelligent enough to do your job.

But if you have failed in every little thing you do, don't have the intelligence to tie your own shoelaces, don't know the difference between a tack hammer and a bridge spike, think that the weather can be contoled by man, then you are a born politician, go into politics immediately all your friends are there, the country needs you, its all screwed up.

Yes, but I think that people have had enough for different and conflicting reasons. Some are fed up for all the reasons Heffer outlines and others are fed up because the debt fuelled binge is running on borrowed time and the public sector pensions liability is going to have to be reviewed, for instance. Meanwhile the coalition tinkers at the edges and can't or won't spell things out. Spelling things out would not make it popular. It does things which most people think are totally barmy like the Overseas Aid budget and largely appears to live in its own world.

From Heffer
Quote:
Perhaps unions are not so militant as they were 30 years ago; perhaps the fear of losing one's job, and being thrown on the mercy of a less-generous-than-before welfare state, will be enough to keep many prospective militants in line.

I would think that most 'militants' either don't have jobs or are students/Unionists/Council workers - but fear of losing ones job is what worries me personally - mortgage to pay (thankfully not in -ve Equity...yet)

Once the thin veneer of civilisation starts to fade (lack rubbish collections, power outages, general strikes) then things will start to happen.

However in all of Heffers post and at least the first page of comments - NOT ONE MENTION money spent on EU/Forgein Aid or Climate Change - amazing!

Do people know how much money we send to EU/Overseas and how much is wasted on 'combatting Climate Change' - clearly not or maybe heads would be rolling sooner........

Don't throw those empty wine bottles and old rags away, they'll come in useful at cocktail time.

Save the expanded polystyrene packaging as well ... dissolved in the petrol, it helps make it stick and prolongs the burn.

Some say that to get to where they are today the Lib Dems and the Tory party had to take their core voters for granted and concentrate on 'bigger things'. I for one do hope it all goes wrong for them and they live to regret this.

On the other hand one can imagine the police buying more Tazer guns and clocking up the overtime bashing forty shades of shit out of the very people who via taxation pay to keep this dump of a country going.

At PMQ’s in the same question (planted?) Dave was asked about the EU Budget increase and the Treaty changes. He said he will fight the increase and allow the Treaty change because we are not members of the Euro. These changes are being introduced because the loans propping up Greece from the ECB are illegal . In the meantime those national banks exposed to the Greek melt down are dumping their exposure onto the ECB. When Greece defaults the EU tax payers will pick up the bill. That will include us. Thank you Dave.

I presume you've got a large stock of broadsheet newspapers, plus copious amounts of coffee and sugar as well?
