When we were working on a headline for Booker's column, I ventured that there might be an "n" missing from it somewhere. Sadly though, this is a family column so the headline went unamended.

Only in polite society, therefore, was the most overworked word of the week the enless "cuts" - although the ineffable "fair" was never far behind, says Booker. George Osborne may have been hailed by one newspaper front page as the "man who rolled back the state" as he "reverses 60 years of recklessly rising public spending" – but of course last week’s supposed curb on state expenditure was nothing of the kind.

The cuts that really hurt are the cuts that aren't cuts at all but a colossal stitch up.

That notwithstanding, we ought now to be organising the overthrow of the collection of criminals and lunatics who are feasting on our great-grandchilden's inheritance, and we know that we have four and a half years to do it. It ought to be possible for a few intelligent and resourceful people, with the assistance of a sympathetic journalist or two, to start a popular ball rolling. It's easy to be carried away by fantasies of revolution but the popular appetite is for real change and a few dedicated individuals might achieve something worthwhile democratically. One dedicated person in each constituency in England could make a difference in 2015, or before.

It is simply not possible that the Con/Lib representatives whom you voted into Parliament are unaware of the arithmetic & stark truth of the so-called cuts.
Where are the protests? They know full well that their constituents are being robbed blind & they say nowt.
Or having secured their places at the trough, is their loyalty only to the Party Clique & constituents be damned?.............There should be mayhem on the floor of the House!
Where too are the constituency commitees who should be recalling their wo/man to base to be told to do their jobs & put their countrymen first; not the effete & traitrous elite?
The hand-outs to India alone should have thousands, righteously, in the streets.
Fcuk the UN, fcuk the EU & fcuk the current asdministration. Good housekeeping begins at home....ask any teetering-on-the-edge family.

Funnily enough I was thinking of writing to my MP to ask him that. It didn't take me long to come to the conclusion that I would be wasting my time.

Serious question : can anyone tell me whether it is ever possible to bring a legal action against a government; is there any law in place; to bring them, individually and/or collectively, to trial for their conduct whilst in office? I think many people believe that Blair, Brown and the rest of the socialists behaved at least recklessly while in power. It is more likely their actions were deliberate; too much took place for it to be incompetence. But all we seem to have it the illusion of getting rid of them at election time. I'm not sure that's a sufficient deterrent or even a punishment for these wrong-doers. So, is there no mechanism for them to be taken to court and prosecuted; eg. for selling our gold reserves at rock-bottom prices, and spending more than is available to them?

It is called "Judicial Review" ... an excellent way of wasting money and making lawyers rich!

There was, of course, a Judicial Review in 1689 that is worth checking out ;).

That was when our wider ruling class got upset with the divine right of a king. They booted him out and now we have the divine right of kings. Democracy is still illusory.

A bit OT, but a nice article by PJ O'Rourke on the US Democrats, which applies just as well to our own masters: They Hate Our Guts

"This is not an election on November 2. This is a restraining order."

Nice! Pity they've abolished meaningful elections here.

Be of good cheer, dear readers......today you may join together in wishing, in order of importance, 'Happy Birthday' to Wayne Rooney (25) & the Untied Nations (65)
Let it be known that I believe, in certain circumstances, in EUthanasia.

A little gem from today's Urban Dictionary (Irish friends please note):

October 24: Neverendum

The act of putting a referendum initiative on the ballot over and over, on the theory that voters will eventually support the proposition because they don't want to hear about it anymore.
"A referendum on banning ice cream again? This is the third time they've tried to get this passed in four years."

"I'm voting in favor this time, just to be done with this neverendum."
