Nature magazine has finally noticed the unusual coldness of the southern hemisphere. And, with absolute, dreary predictability, it's climate change as "Cold empties Bolivian rivers of fish" and "Antarctic cold snap kills millions of aquatic animals in the Amazon." At first it was funny ... whether it was hot, cold, wet, dry, windy, calm, it was always climate change. How lucky for the warmists that, at a very early stage they dumped "global warming" in favour of this catch-all.

Louise Gray in to-day's DT manages to blame a temporary blip in the Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly on a parasitic fly. NO mention of the words ....... ...... at all. I can't find Geoffrey Lean's 'regular Saturday column' anywhere. I thought Rose Prince was going to do her 'Potash shortage' article without mentioning the 'CC' words, but no, she quotes Sean Rickard who says "Due to the rising cost of energy , the reduction of water and CLIMATE CHANGE, we need to use more fertiliser.....'
Still, some progress I suppose !

This is the quality of the 'climate change' movement, lampooned in The Guardian of all places:

Excellent conclusion to your article - at last someone suggests a real use for the warmists! And what sweet irony - that their last activity should turn loose many kilograms of their favourite (not!) gas.

Linked to from comments to the above-mentioned Groanaid article is this elegant Venn diagram encapsulating the climate change movement :

Earlier this week the BBC Breakfast News weather presenter, Carol, said there was a risk of frost in the rural South West so Autumn is here with a vengeance. Also noticing that there seems to be signs that nature is producing lots of berries, fruits and nuts which the wildlife will need to survive another cold winter. She's always one step ahead of the game that Mother Nature.

Yes, she does it for me Ms Kirkwood

Climate Change Dictionary

PEER REVIEW: The act of banding together a group of like-minded academics with a funding conflict of interest, for the purpose of squeezing out any research voices that threaten the multi-million dollar government grant gravy train.

Did you look at the comment section under this story??
If they deleted all the denialists comments there wouldn't have any comments to read

SETTLED SCIENCE: Betrayal of the scientific method for politics or money or both.

DENIER: Anyone who suspects the truth.

CLIMATE CHANGE: What has been happening for billions of years, but should now be flogged to produce 'panic for profit.'

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE: Leftist Nutcase Prize, unrelated to "Peace" in any meaningful way.

DATA, EVIDENCE: Unnecessary details. If anyone asks for this, see "DENIER," above.

CLIMATE SCIENTIST: A person skilled in spouting obscure, scientific-sounding jargon that has the effect of deflecting requests for "DATA" by "DENIERS." Also skilled at affecting an aura of "Smartest Person in the Room" to buffalo gullible legislators and journalists.

JUNK SCIENCE: The use of invalid scientific evidence resulting in findings of causation which simply cannot be justified or understood from the standpoint of the current state of credible scientific or medical knowledge.

As a matter of interest, what is the calorific value of a warmist?

As warmists are carbon based, will we have to pay a Carbon tax or get a credit for burning one. And after burning, does one have to sequestrate it?

For me, the real tragedy in this AGW/ACC scam, is that politically motivated people of low scientific training and ability, have destroyed the reputation of science as a whole. Thousands of good physicists of great knowledge and creativity have been tarred by the politicisation of Climate - not a science but a political tool to pull the tax chariot in the service of politicians. Its not just the money that is going to be lifted out of the pockets of ordinary people who do not have the ability to dip into the Treasury here or in Brussels, but the long term damage to the reputation of science, and its knock on effect of discouraging good minds away from science. All our industries are now in China. Will the CoG of science and technology also shift to the East?

As usual with politicians - its always short-term gain for the ruling class, with the devil taking the hindmost.

Out of the ashes rises the phoenix.
I think the internet has been a shot in the arm for academia. Watts Up With That shows that there are many fine scientific brains, quite capable of studying, even if they don't earn their living as publishing academics. As Richard was saying earlier research has never been so easy, and a team of the mutually curious can cover an awful lot of ground.
Academia has been a comfortable world of mutual back-scratching for far too long and it has seriously slowed human progress.

You are wise not to use your name inspace, but your soubriquet describes you well enough.
The sallies of Dr. North, Bane of Bullshit, into the global warming scam have met with remarkable success. The Truth has passed the editors and it has taken the full weight of the scam's political allies to limit the damage.
The footprints left by the good Dr. blaze a trail for future researchers to unravel just what unholy alliances have built this science busting phenomenon.

So true, Sandy. See here:
Quote:
A review of the practices of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been conducted in response to intense criticism of the body, whose reports are used by governments to inform policy decisions on global warming.
The findings of the review are due to be handed to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon tomorrow.

......
Quote:
Professor Robert Watson, the chief scientific adviser to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and a former chair of the UN's IPCC, told the InterAcademy Council's review committee that more needed to be done to prevent errors appearing in the panel's reports.
He described the way the IPCC handled the mistakes as "totally and utterly atrocious" and suggested that the panel should consider hiring additional staff to check through the sources of information, or references, to ensure the accuracy of statements made in future reports.

On balance, nil. The heat requirement to drive off the moisture sufficient for them to be burnable is roughly the same as the amount of heat produced by burning them. That makes the process energy neutral ... not even as good as wind farms.
