" ... what jaded eyes find incredible seems perfectly natural to those outside Westminster who, having voted to put no one in sole charge, want to see politicians take up the challenge and co-operate in the national interest." So writes the ultimate denizen of the bubble, Benedict Brogan, who has honed and perfected the Westminster narrative, to explain and justify the Cleggeron coalition.

Dr North, I value your opinions and your blog is my first port of call every day.
As far as I'm concerned, you are doing everything right.
Look after yourself and keep on blogging.
Yours sincerely,

This is the lie they comfort themselves with. Similar to the 1997 Labour 'win' that was more down to Conservatives not voting than anything in the Labour manifesto. A Government enthused by a stamp of approval invented by themselves is a dangerous beast. Everything they do can be 'in the national interest' because 'this is what the people voted for'. We didn't.

I wonder how many politicians today appreciate that the tyranny of a majority is still a tyranny.

When Benedict Brogan wrote: ".. seems perfectly natural to those outside Westminster who, having voted to put no one in sole charge, want to see politicians take up the challenge and co-operate in the national interest"

He obviously doesn't realise that there were no candidates on the ballot paper named:
- "Coalition"
- "Proportional Representation"
- "Drop half of manifesto pledges"
- "Let the third party rule".

Also, is this the same Benedict Brogan who forgot to give prominent coverage of this seismic event in British history on 13th December 2007?:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucvkEUPMUqE (Video of Brown signing the Lisbon Treaty while trying to avoid being noticed)

Compare the Daily Express's front page on the day after Brown signed the Lisbon Treaty:

with the Daily Mail's front page on the same day, of which Brogan was political editor:

(See them both on this lefty site here: http://www.mailwatch.co.uk/2007/12/14/ )
