Post Copenhagen seems as good a time as any to launch a new combined thread, taking over from "Climategate" which has had a record run. I'm locking that thread and kicking this off with a review of Booker's column:

Protecting Big Carbon

In 2004, it was less than $300 million but in 2005, the trade really started to soar, ending the year with $10.8 billion-worth of transactions. A year later, in 2006, the "carbon" market had grown to $31 billion. Again, it more than doubled its turnover to $64 billion in 2007 and last year did it again, reaching a colossal $126 billion. By 2020, some estimates suggest the annual value will reach $2 trillion.

When and how is the end game going to occur?
Do we need a senior enough politician to stand up and say "enough is enough, this crap is rollox", and where will we find such a person?
Or does the system have it's own in-built demise ?

That's FANTASTIC, Richard. Oh, well done. A real breakthrough.

Many many congratulations.

You do realise that you are now on your way to untold riches? It's just a matter of what price you put on your principles — and keeping your mouth shut.

Here's the plan. Take the all brown envelopes offered you, swear blind you'll do the baddies' bidding then rat on the deal. Give 'em some payback and get rich at the same time. F### 'em good. :)

There's nothing in it for a major politician to admit this. Even agreeing with the theory of man made climate change but suggesting we don't put prosperity at risk to solve it is tantamount to heresy.

I don't understand. Why does the same not apply to Kingsnorth ?

This is yet another illustration that our elected representatives are working for someone else. It is way past time that we hauled their asses over the coals.

Hopefully the other mainstream media will pick up on this story and it goes ballistic. Also get the link around blogosphere to get the story out there.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this link before, but I reccommend you watch this brilliant 6-part film - 'The Cloud Mystery' - looking at the work of Henrik Svensmark.

I believe the politicians have had their chance and fluffed it - for power and money.

The grassroots and scientists - *real* scientists are going to trounce the greedy b*stards. Already, there's been a meaty scientific revolt - watch this:

You and Chris are really cutting out your own area of expertise in this climategate scandal. WUWT talent is for crunching the data but they do not have your nose for ferreting out the devious politics. I suppose your work undermining the EU has developed into a unique talent for looking beyond the immediate scandal to what is driving it, this make your weblog unique in the world and I am sure it has the growing if begrudging resepect of the media.

Why the hell isn't this front page headlines? This scandal is bigger than Watergate because it affects the entire world. Why FFS? WHY?
