Read this Boys Own tale of derring-do by Sam Kiley, and then this, followed by this. Hard though it is to believe, the first writer is describing the same war, in the same place as the writer of the two following pieces.

You beat me to it. I've read both and it's quite bizarre, though confirmed my view that we'd end up being saved (or perhaps I mean the Afghans) by the Septics.

Damn FCO should be put into the fields for some mine clearance old Soviet style.

I got his book this morning ... he'd be better off writing for the Sun than the Times. Amongst his other joys, he describes the Jackal as having a v-shaped hull!
