There is much coverage of – and derision about – the Met Office's ridiculous forecast for this year's summer. But, unless I am missing something, not one of the articles makes the link between the lack of precision on these short-term forecasts and the apparent certainly with which the Met Office issues forecasts for 20, 40 and 80 years hence.

I heard it on BFBS yesterday and I have to admit: I giggled.

Perhaps they have to fine-tune their computer models.

I wonder how impressed Joe Public would be with these predictions of doom, if we described these Climate scientist’s as exactly what they are, Weather men.

The climate debate is clearly political, being driven by Red /Green Socialist-Environmentalist’s, issuing repeatedly the message that the world will end at some unspecified point in the future ( 5, 10 , 50, 100 years, doesn’t matter when) and that we will all burn unless we do exactly what they say.

People never take seriously the man in the street with the bill board declaring “the end of the world is nigh”, this is no different. We need people to wake up.

Damn,

I had been meaning to post on this and finally got around to it this morning, it's on autopost for 6:00pm.

My point was that the Met office has been feeding us this crap for the last four or five years and not once been right. Part of the Govt's global warming agenda?

My second point is that any rise in temperature can only be of benfit to Britain once one understands what a drop of one degree in average temperatures means in terms of more deaths from cold, disease and the effects on agriculture. Sod the rest of the World, especially China and India if they're going to keep pumping CO2 into the atmosphere then that's their look out. This is assuming that CO2 has anything to do with global warming, which I doubt.

Are the BBC stupid enough not to realize where this leaves the alarmist hypothesis, or are the BBC positioning themselves for the collapse of the hysteria?

Your MET is having its buttocks re-worked quite nicely by a disloyal ex-Colonial.

Who knew the temperature last year at Upper Beasley on Beerkeg was a State Secret ?

The BBC took great care yesterday (World at One) to distinguish between the Met Office's short-term forecasts and its so-called highly regarded world-class work on climate change.

We should treat all these AGW advocates as the cretins they are....we have long gone past the time that their idiot ideas have been totally debunked.

They have only two excuses, either they are after our money, in which case they are total frauds, or they are so stupid that they should have no positions of influence.

With money like £70bn pounds for the "climate change any_which_way"/AGW scam, what chance the truth. Money talks, and with that kind of money, it bellows.

Why no linkage?

If the media started putting 2+2 together on one subject, their readers would expect them to do so on all subjects. Thinking news, however, would be a very corrosive influence on the way news is currently produced, it being concerned with protecting their clients within the soap opera of opinion formers and news-makers.

The current news approach is reliant on interviews, quotes, tip-offs and leaks from personalities and opinions of "high status" people. These people of "high status" want to be portrayed as oracles and truth-sayers not fraudsters and idiots, and won't cooperate if they are made to look fools.

The media complies by trumpeting their status, wealth and celebrity before they quote them. This gives a false weight to the opinion and for the media the false reflected glory of having gained privileged access to the politician, scientist, advocacy group.

Within the soap opera "jam tomorrow" paradigm (the "jam" being the facts to back up the news) unbiased news coverage means the media will completely impartially deliver the message the few "high status" people they quote want them to deliver, without a real investigation whereupon the journalist would call BS.

There is also the question why we continue to buy newslite rather than demand the real thing. Is it the nature of equality in a democracy that everyone, no matter how ignorant they are, has just one vote? So politics becomes not a matter of who's right but who can convince the most people of something; in which emotional narrative and celebritisation of serious issues becomes key.
