Clive Betts: Sleazocrat & Porkocrat

Postby The Huntsman » Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:05 pm

Is Clive Betts (see this in the Times) the suino di tutti suini, the Porker of All Porkers? Maybe, maybe not, as Jonathan Djanogly seems to be making a play for the Title. Readers will have their own candidates for which MP is the biggest porker of them all but there is something particularly 'Animal Farm' about Mr. Betts.

I'll see your Clive Betts, and raise you Nigel Griffiths. One time minister for small business - one might be forgiven for thinking the only 'small business' Griffiths knows anything about is his own little operation milking the Parliamentary expenses system.

The Scotsman from 10th December 2001: "Labour reels as Officegate row depens".

"Although he bought the office in 1997, the Edinburgh South MP has claimed £10,000 a year in rental expenses from the Fees Office".

Griffiths was not above tugging at our heart strings, either. " .. the use of the money, albeit to help his autistic sister .."

Wouldn't we all like to be able to dip our paws into unlimited funds to help those members of our family too poor or disadvantaged to help themselves?

So he has been 'at it' in more ways than one since 1997.

Sorry, one more, a corker from Nigel Griffiths.

The Times 28th March:

Griffiths said: "Small business told the chancellor and they told me that if we gave them a tax break they would use that money to invest in their businesses. Sadly, they decided to take it out in income by switching it to dividends *and putting it in their own pockets*."

Can't have people putting their own money in their own pockets, now can we?

Can't have people 'bending' the rules either.

I feel a letter coming on.
