It is not only the politicians who are on another planet. Today, according to The Guardian, the Royal Society publishes a report telling us that we will have to pay more for energy if the UK is to have any chance of developing the technologies needed to tackle climate change.

Creating a new Carbon Tax seems to be a consistent theme, it may not replace VAT, but could easily be another tax added onto all bills. After all AGW is all about raiseing revenue, not saving the planet and this is just yet more propaganda to soften us up.

Here again if we had a sane opposition, they could make plenty of such lunacies. Over in the US that is what will happen to the Chosen One's Cap and Trade Bill, hopefully it will run into sanity when the true cost becomes apparent, meanwhile all we have is a simpering buffoon desperately trying to impress his idiot mate Zac.

"He adds: "We have to allow the economy to adapt to higher energy prices through carbon prices and that will then make things like renewables and nuclear more economic, as carbon-based alternatives become more expensive."

A bit like making Jaguars more expensive so it is economical to buy a Roller.

Another one in need of a day job.

This carbon tax malarkey is a common thread.I've heard messianic global freaky MEPs declare that after Lisbon they'll easily be able to introducea Euro wide carbon tax (additional and seperate from VAT).Are not HIPS to be the basis for this tax, just as council tax revaluations will form the basis of a NEW PROPERTY TAX?

We already pay VAT on the Excise duty levied on fuel.

Is the intention for us to pay a carbon tax on the VAT plus the Excise duty already levied on the fuel?

The men in white coats should take them away!

How stupid are those that can read!
It takes about 30 seconds to 'Google' Wikipedia and find that the worlds total population in 2006 was 6.5 billion ( 6,500,000,000 ) of which the European Union, ( 854,000,000) and the U.S.A. (306,000,000 ) are about the same as China, long live '' King Knut,'' sounds like the British are in for a lot of ah, um, brown?

Of course.Anyone old enough to remember the black market, knows that as long as conscription can be avoided, there is money to be made. Pick up your application form for Organised Crime now. You know it works, look at Brussels.

"Too late just had the MEP elections."

The Provisional Organised Crime wing is always open. Just a few simple tests, like taking the dye out of diesel. Think positively, little old ladies will be bartering their carbon allowance for food. Gollum Miliband's carbon swipe cards will need cloning. This is going to be a huge boost to the black economy.
